Almond flour is a frequently used ingredient in Real.Easy.Meals. recipes, not to mention one of the staple ingredients to keep on hand at all times. What makes this flour so special? Almond flour is a beneficial health food that has several nutrient rich ingredients which help to protect from or reduce coronary heart disease and reduce colon cancer risk.

Almond flour contains fatty acids which are beneficial in maintaining healthy blood cholesterol and lipoprotein levels, an arginine-rich amino acid profile, micronutrients such as copper and magnesium, plant sterols, and tocopherols which is the most active form of vitamin E. All of which help to protect the body and reduce the risk of disease. You can see why almond flour is such a nutritional powerhouse and why it is widely used in our recipes.

Since almond flour is one of our staple ingredients, we found it useful to know where to find it. We did some searching, and this is what we have found:

Almond flour

Your local grocery store might not be the most cost effective. I found a 1lb. bag of Bob’s Red Mill Almond Flour for $10.49

Whole Foods Market has Bob’s Red Mill Almond Flour for $8.99/lb. in the bulk section as well as the 1 lb. packaged bag for $11.99

Bob’s Red Mill online will ship 1 lb. bags for $11.59, 4-1 lb. bags for $10.47/lb., or a 25 lb. bag for $3.61/lb.

Honeyville online will ship a 1 lb. bag of Blanched almond flour for $9.99 or a 5 lb. bag for$5.99/lb.

From our findings it looks like purchasing bulk quantities online is your best option. When purchasing your almond flour in bulk, be prepared to store the flour in either gallon sized Ziploc freezer bags, or half gallon mason jars. Make sure to keep one jar on hand for immediate use and keep the rest in your freezer for up to 6 months. Start reaping the benefits of almond flour in your diet!
